Happy World Environment Day

Happy World Environment Day!  I've always been an advocate for a green, clean, and safe planet.  This is a global initiative, endorsed by the United Nations to celebrate, advocate, and promote worldwide awareness and action for the protection and conservation of our environment.  This global movement began in 1974 and has grown in more than 100 countries.  it is an awesome global platform to put the message across of caring, protecting, and nurturing our planet.  I can still recall the year 1990, when the seeds of environmental awareness and latter on action on my part began to manifest.  As a faculty member of the Communication Arts Department of Miriam College, I was introduced and eventually immersed myself with the advocacy of Miriam-P.E.A.C.E., the Miriam Public Education and Awareness Campaign for the Environment.

I've had the most fulfilling and enriching experience in myself with the different projects our group got involved in: the Balik-Bayong Project, Biak-na-Bato National Park, Laiban Dam, Dona Remedios Trinidad reforestation project, and my pride and joy, Radyo Kalikasan (RK).  There were many more projects, big and small that our group got involved with and in.  But for me, RK was the most memorable one because we, Dr. Donna Reyes and myself, started a pioneering radio show in 1991 which is still on-going right now.  It is the longest running environmental education radio show in the Philippines.
